In Paris

Ack is visiting Paris, at a conference on three satellite missions, CALIPSO and CloudSat being two of them - we sponsored that meeting back in 2009.  A couple of photos of the conference...

The reception was held Monday at the Universite Peirre et Marie Curie - on the 24th floor. That is a view of Notre Dame.

The conference is being held at the Institut Océanographique. The lecture room has murals dating 1910. Yes, they are harpooning a whale, I guess that is how they studied marine animals then.

And this is in the front of the lecture all, so if you get bored you can inspect the painting. Check out what is happening on the left of the painting.

Working in Italy

Ack is in Italy doing a training workshop on satellite remote sensing for EUMETSAT. I am staying in a hotel on Lake Bracciano, just north of Rome. In the town of Bracciano is a castle, the majestic Odescalchi Castle.  Here are some photos from the trip, one from the view of our breakfast place in the hotel, the rest from a visit to the castle.

A view of the courtyard. The castle was never conquered and so it has many of its furniture and decorations that are over 400 years old - thus no pictures were allowed.

On this particular night, there was a fund raiser for Breast Cancer, so they lit up the castle in pink! This was taken from a restaurant, the food in Italy is great!
