January 18, 2015

Anne helped with the 5 and under bonspiel at the curling club. When home we did a little hike around the lake (some spots very soggy as temperature was around 40F), then champagne (part of my Christmas gift) and a sunset. The Thienot bottle of champagne was the best of the three so far. The Packers lost to the Seahawks and Ack blames the coaching for playing conservatively with 5 minutes to go!

Vedauwoo

Just for the heck of it, here are some photos from Vedauwoo, a magical place just outside Laramie. We visited there in November with Erin and Al, about 25 years after the last time I'd been there with my two very little girls. Just as amazing as I'd remembered.

Thanksgiving in Utah

Anne and Ack joined Erin, Al and his folks Maria and Jim in Salt Lake for the holiday.
Warm! Sunny! Delicious! Fun!
The visit included...

...a hike up a canyon along a creek,

...a tailgate party and then a win at the Utah-Colorado game,

...and, a spectacular Christmas display in Temple Square. Thank you, Mormons.

Mike visiting...

Devil's Door at Devil's Lake State Park

The 'Bird Orchestra' of Dr. Evermore

Mike is out here visiting. (Yeah!) In addition to boat rides and relaxing, we saw some art work, toured Art Fair on the Square, heard some great French language music at La Fete de Marquette, made a long hike at Devil's Lake, and stopped in to visit Dr. Evermore's sculptures.

What do you do when...

two views...

Here are two views of autumn leaves. One before they fall, and the other after they fall! Anne and I went hiking in the arboretum to enjoy the colors on Sunday. We deal with fallen leaves at the house by mulching flower beds, burning and taking them to a compost site.

Hiking...

We went hiking today along part of the Ice Age Trail - the Muir Loop. We also stopped along the way to read historic signs and learned about Fort Winnebago, a 19th century fort on a hill near the portage site from Fox river to the Wisconsin River. When we got home we went out on the lake and watched the sunset before returning home to watch two episodes of "Battleship Galactica" and then work.
