My Valentine gave me good chocolate and fine champagne - does she know me or what! We also went curling (a good game and Anne got good skipping tips from Tim), watched as new drapes (we really like them) got installed and stayed and home and streamed Birdman (an interesting film.) Below, we celebrated Alana birthday by going to breakfast and eating off each others plate. In the evening we sipped champagne! Happy BD Alana!

Happy Anniversary!

In New York this weekend,

we celebrated Mimi and Poppy's 65th wedding anniversary...

and Evelyn's 39th birthday.

Both parties were fun and delicious.

Happy Birthday Joe

Happy Birthday Joe Pryor! Anne is out visiting. Ack went up to the capitol to walk around with protesters. Favorite sign "Because there are good things in the world Mr. Frodo, and they are worth fighting for."  A tractor with a manure spreader included a sign indicating this is where the 'budget repair bill' belonged.

Behavior of Republican leadership in trying to solve WI budget issues is shameful.

Happy Birthday Ack!

Ack's birthday was celebrated with Alana coming to visit for a couple of weeks (Erin comes later), champagne, shuffle board and a boat ride. Yes, that is our new boat, which we picked up today!

Happy Birthday Erin!

Happy Birthday Erin! She is appropriately celebrating it in Ireland with her Mom. As for Ack, he'll drink a bottle of Cava in her honor and stay home in the morning.

Happy Birthday Reed

Ack is in DC giving a presentation to the teachers who won the Presidential Awards for Exclellence in Mathematics and Science Teachging. He and Margaret did a workshop on some of the on-line materials CIMSS has developed.  Reed was in town and so is Alana. We celebrated Reed's 19th birthday at a nice DC french resturant Distrot Du Coin.

Happy Birthday Anne!

Anne left the pool of 54ers yesterday July 31. So, we need to come up with a new blog theme. Send us your ideas. Meanwhile, we'll stay here for a while. Ack finished up hosting a NASA meeting of 125 folks - including a party at the house. Anne (with Ack tagging along) is working at the Midwest folklife festival.

Happy Birthday, Margaret!

The secret is finally out. Last night, our book group gave Margaret Mooney the quilt we made for her 50th birthday. Her actual day was 4/15 but she was happily celebrating in Hanalei Bay on Kauai, so we had to wait. The quilt is pieced from material and old clothes that women in her book group and spirit group gave. The book group gals cut and sewed it over two weekends at our house. This is Kim, me and Meg with the nearly completed top. The final product is even better.

Back in DC

Ack and Anne and Alana - in DC for a belated birthday celebration. La turned 26 this month so we're here to say hi and shop for health insurance as a much needed birthday gift. Last night, Ack taught her the secrets of the clam sauce on spaghetti recipe. (Anne wasn't included.) Look at that happy now-knowledgeable face!

Other highlights of the weekend: spending Saturday afternoon with Mary Salhus at the National Art Gallery for the Pompeii exhibit and staying at Paddy's house in Alexandria, even though she's out of town.

Happy Birthday Anne!!

Happy Platinum Birthday Anne!! This is her sailing on the lake, one of the few things she wanted to do to celebrate her 54!

Ack caught his first fish of the season today - he hasn't been fishing much...

Birthday....

So, how did I spend my birthday? I went fishing for 54 minutes, and caught 0 X 54 fish. Anne made a wonderful breakfast and then I worked on a retaining wall near our driveway (adding 54 stones). That was fun, not work. I went briefly to work to give a presentation on a NOAA telecon - that was work. We went and got panniers for my bike and a shirt from REI. We then saw the movie, "Journey to the Center of the Earth - 3D", which was pretty cool in 3-D (don't bother with the 2-D version). Did some more fishing near sunset with the same result as the morning. Watched fire-flies (see movie below) and a DVD: The King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters, which was an interesting documentary.
